Synopsis of Video

Our idea for the music video is a performance/parody based video. The bands/artists we are going to parody are Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Oasis, Take That, and Pete Doherty. There is not really a narrative to our music video apart from the stories behind the artists/band’s we are making a parody of. For the artists that we parody in the video we will make reference to their personal life, for example the rumors of Lady Gaga, the feud between Noel and Liam Gallagher of Oasis. Also we will make fun of some of their music videos, by making reference to certain aspects of their videos and adding humour.

Creative Ideas

The parodies in our video need to look real, and make a good reference to the artist’s image and how they are portrayed to the public by the media. This means that the mise-en-scene in our music video needs to be good. So the clothing and costumes that the actors wear need to be similar to the clothing that Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Oasis etc wear. For example the actor playing Kanye West will need to wear a silver suit with a black shirt, with aviator sunglasses, and for Lady Gaga the actor will need to be wearing skimpy clothes. The locations in our video will also need to make reference to the artists. For example in Take That’s music video for ‘Patience’ the band members are on a beach, so we will possibly need to film on a beach, to make the parody look good.

At the beginning of the music video we will show a couple of close ups of the guitar leads being plugged into amps, the drum kit being set up, and microphones being placed on stands etc. Then we will show a close up of the bass guitarist moving his fingers in time with the music, strumming the guitar strings. We will then show close ups of certain drums being hit on the drum kit in sync with the music. After the intro of the song has finished, the camera will focus on the lead singer at a high angle. We might also use some canted angles while you can see the band playing. These camera shots and editing techniques are being used at the beginning of the video to create the enigma of who’s playing the instruments. For the parodies we will use the camera shots and editing techniques that are commonly used in the other artist’s music videos, for example in Take That’s music video for ‘Patience’ the camera pans around the band members while they are walking towards the beach.
